Social media clowned Bill Gates’ daughter, Phoebe Gates, for having a Black boyfriend. She went public to shut down the racists and haters who flooded her comments section.
“It’s 2023. I’m done being memed for being in an interracial relationship,” she told The Information.
Gates, 20, and her boyfriend, Robert Ross, went public in May 2022 but were met with hateful comments and are still getting them.
Despite the two Stanford University students trying to show their romance on their social media accounts, commenters aren’t letting them see the light of day.
Ross’s recent Instagram post is the only one with pictures of him and young gates—his comments section is filled with people making jokes about him dating a white woman.
“You secured generational wealth for your family, salute young brother, stay away from all his vaccines, and you’ll be fine,” one commenter wrote.
“Get them reparations, brother,” another person commented.
“Show us your ways, oh great negro leader. Show us your ways!!” a comment read.
Gates’ comments section on Instagram and TikTok varied, with some claiming they’re a beautiful couple and others being racist haters.
“Bill gates failed as a father,” a person wrote in the comment section of a TikTok video showing the couple at the People’s Choice Awards.

“Please make sure he doesn’t loot any money of your dad lol,” someone wrote under a Jan. 1 Instagram post, showing the two posing in front of a fireplace.
“Looks like a future single mother!” A racist commenter wrote.
“You couldn’t find anyone else??”
In an interview, Gates admitted that having a social media presence with her father’s name tied to it was difficult, knowing the “misconceptions and conspiracy theories about my family and my relationship with my boyfriend” floating around.
Gates said she uses TikTok to show who she is, hoping to shut down people’s presumptions of her.
