An argument led to gunfire in a downtown Atlanta Subway, leaving one young woman wounded and another dead on June 26, Sunday evening. The shooting occurred over a dispute about too much mayonnaise on a sandwich.
The incident occurred at a Subway in a downtown Circle K gas station at the intersection of Northside and Markham St around 6:30 pm, according to police. Upon their arrival, authorities were met with a scene of two shot employees.
One of the women, identified as 26-year-old Brittany Macon, was later pronounced dead.According to the WSB TV, the surviving victim was shot in front of her five-year-old child. She was rushed to the hospital and is listed in critical condition. Her young child witnessed the entire thing, his mother being hit twice after pushing him under a table to protect him from the bullets and the irate customer killing Macon.
A crucial tip helped investigators identify a 36-year-old Atlanta man as the suspect within a few hours.
Willie Glenn, the co-owner of the Subway, gave a statement following the shooting.
“It just breaks my heart to know that someone has the audacity to point a weapon and shoot someone for as little as too much mayonnaise on a sandwich.”
And that the two victims were “model employees.”
Glenn added that he believed that the shooter had been in the store before the day of the shooting.
“I don’t know what the world is coming to, especially with our youth. They seem to be so hot-headed,” he told Fox5. “Everybody wants to carry a gun. Everybody wants to scare somebody with a gun. It’s scary out here.”
