Twenty-nine-year-old Asia Maynard was found dead in a white man’s apartment in Kansas City, Missouri, after a date, but the police claim that there was no foul play. Maynard was found deceased on Feb. 19 in the home of Isiah Crown on East 57th Street.
The Kansas City Police Department told the family that Maynard, who is a mother of four, probably died of natural causes. According to her cousin, Hailie Loomis, Maynard had been on a date with Crown. She went on the date with him on the evening of Feb. 18 and never returned home. Crown called the police on Feb. 19 after he claimed to have found her stiff.
On Feb. 20, the family was told that Maynard was deceased after they had been reporting her missing for 24 hours. The family later found out that the woman was found dead in Crown’s apartment a day earlier. The police refused to provide them with any information other than she probably died of natural causes.
“They had said that although they are waiting for the toxicology report they believe it was from natural causes and so there would be no further investigation,” said Loomis.
Denise Maynard, Asia’s mom, said that her daughter was “saturated” with blood and had blood in her eyes and ears at the funeral home.
“When she got to the funeral home and we viewed her body she had blood in her eyes and her ears and her clothes were saturated with blood,” Denise said.

Crown allegedly has a history of drugs and overdoses. His former roommate, Cameron Kean, told the Kansas Defender that he once overdosed in front of Crown. Kean claimed that Crown was a pill pusher.
“One of the reasons I’m speaking out is because I also overdosed and nearly died because of him. I was laying on the ground barely breathing almost dead. While the ambulance was on the way he wasn’t helping me he was hiding the stuff. He kept selling the same pills even after our friend died and after I overdosed. Everyday I think about our friend. I can’t even look his mom in the face.”
Circumstances surrounding Maynard’s death are eerily similar to the death of Lauren Smith-Fields, who also died in a white man’s home after a date. Authorities failed to investigate her death as well in the proximately white town of Bridgeport, Conn. Her death was later determined to be an overdose of fentanyl.
Maynard’s aunt, Rhonda Turner, just wants justice for her niece.
“I want justice done if he did it,” she said. “Please in the name of Jesus I know God seen everything and we want people to listen to us.”
The Kansas City Police Department said that they are not investigating Maynard’s death as a homicide but a death investigation.
