The Georgia woman who kidnapped twin babies after shooting their mother in the head and chest has been arrested, according to WJCL. Angela Montgomery, 23, was arrested on May 11 in Rincon.
Montgomery was found hiding in the Rincon home with her boyfriend. Police said that they found the same gun used in the shooting at the home where Montgomery was hiding. She met the victim, twenty-three-year-old Gabrielle Rodgers, on Facebook.
The woman allegedly shot
Rodgers at her home in Savannah sometime around 10 a.m. on the morning of May 11 before kidnapping her twins, according to Detective Patrick Skinner. No motive has been released, but Montgomery agreed to talk with the police after she was arrested.She told the police that she was helping her twin sister and that the babies belonged to her sister.
Montgomery doesn’t have a twin sister. Her lawyer asked that his client undergo a mental health evaluation, and Montgomery was denied bail by the judge. Rodgers is in the hospital but stable, and her twin boys, Matto and Lorenzo, were found safe.
The Chief Roy Minter of the Savannah Police Department issued
a statement regarding the incident.“What happened today is every mother’s worst nightmare. We are so thankful that Matto and Lorenzo were located quickly and were ultimately unharmed,” he said. “This was an all hands on deck approach. Everyone in the Savannah area was looking for this suspect and the twins. The detectives in this case worked quickly, tracking down every available lead while working with our local, state and federal partners, but the case would not have moved as swiftly if it had not also been for the community assistance. SPD, and I’m sure the rest of the city, hopes to see the children’s mother make a full recovery and be reunited with her sons as soon as possible.”
The victim’s sister, Briana Young, set up a GoFund Me for Gabrielle to help with medical expenses.
“Your donations are truly a blessing, which will be going towards her medical bills, diapers, milk, etc. Thank you very much. God bless. ❤️,” she wrote.
So far, the fundraiser has more than $10,000 in donations.
