An Arizona Wendy’s Employee Charged With Second-Degree Murder After Punching An Elderly Customer And Killing Him

A 35-year-old Wendy’s employee punched a 67-year-old customer inside the fast food restaurant in Prescott Valley, Arizona, on July 26, around 4:41 p.m. 10 days later, the elderly man succumbed to his injuries. The encounter was captured on surveillance.

“A customer complained about his food order, at which time, Wendy’s employee, Antoine Kendrick, came out from behind the service counter and struck the customer in the head,” law enforcement said

, according to Fox 10. “The customer fell to the floor, striking his head, and lost consciousness.”

According to a July 28 media release from the Prescott Valley Police Department, the 67-year-old was airlifted to a Valley hospital and was in critical condition. Antoine Kendrick was arrested, and chargedwith aggravated assault. An August 15 updated media release from the department announced that the victim died from his injuries on August 5, and Kendrick’s aggravated assault charge was upgraded to a second-degree murder charge.

The surveillance video did not include sound but showed Kendrick moving from his workstation to the front of the counter, where the 67-year-old man stood hunched over the counter. Kendrick punched him for complaining about his order. The attacker walked away after hitting his victim without offering any assistance. At the same time, his fellow employees stepped up to see what the commotion was about. In another part of the video, Kendrick gathered his belongings and walked out of the restaurant. It’s not clear whether Kendrick was told to leave or if he voluntarily resigned.
