The Minnesota Vikings announced on Friday, June 9, the expected news that they decided to cut ties with running back Dalvin Cook due to the “salary cap.” Now, many are eagerly waiting to see which NFL team will scoop up the free agent.
There are 32 teams in the NFL, so there’s more than a chance Cook will get signed to one, especially with his resume. The running back is ranked sixth in the NFL in 2022 with 1,173 rushing yards (a total of 5,993 since 2017). And he carried the second-longest run last season.
But no team is making drastic moves, and Cook isn’t settling on anything. He’s expecting a deal that would put him closer to the $10.4 million pact he was to get with the Vikings. Additionally, he wants a team that sees him as valuable.
Many Dallas Cowboys fans have expressed wanting the team to pick up the running back, but according to Sports Illustrated, a source from the team claimed they weren’t interested in striking a deal with him.
Football analyst Dan Orlovsky claimed the Cowboys would benefit from signing Cook during Quick Takes with Stephen A. Smith.
“Dalvin Cook should go to the Dallas Cowboys, and Dallas Cowboys should sign Dalvin Cook,” Orlovsky bluntly stated. “Here’s the reality. Dallas, don’t tell me you’re legit about wanting to do everything that you can do to go win a Super Bowl if you don’t sign Dalvin Cook. Your starting tailback, Tony Pollard, broke his leg five months ago.”
Orlovsky continued, “Dalvin Cook can still flat-out go…you want to run the football more with the guy that just broke his legs five months ago? Tony Pollard is a really, really awesome player. Dalvin Cook got four straight 1,000-yard seasons. He is a younger and more productive…he’s a more fresh version of Ezekiel Elliott, and I think that if Dallas is really serious about making a Super Bowl run, are you a better football team with or without Dalvin Cook? You’re a better football team with him. Go get Dalvin Cook.”
Smith agreed, calling Cook a weapon, but he didn’t want Cook joining the team because he isn’t a fan of them.
Many have voiced that they were for Cook joining the Miami Dolphins since he’s a Florida boy.
