NFL player Aaron Jones recently located a necklace filled with the ashes of his late father after losing it on the field.
On Monday night, Jones, who plays for the Green Bay Packers, wore the necklace while playing in the game.
At some point, the necklace, which has a football-shaped medallion on it that is filled
with the ashes, slipped off. Jones assumed that it happened during his second touchdown of the night. He took the loss of the miniature urn in stride and joked that his father would have wanted him to lose it while on the field.
“If there was any place to lose it, that’s where my dad would’ve wanted me to lose it,” Jones said. “So I know he’s smiling.”
Jones’s father, Alvin Jones Sr., died of COVID-19 in April at the age of 56.
But, this story has a happy ending. The field’s ground staff began searching for the lost necklace after the game, and they recovered it.
Trainer Bryan Engel helped search for the medallion. In all, it took two hours to locate it. Jones took to Twitter to thank Engel for the late-night recovery.
Despite losing the ashes, Jones went on to have a good game. He scored two additional touchdowns matching his all-time career high. It seems that no matter where his father rests, he is always with his son.
