The New York Police Department uncovered a 3-month-old girl’s body in a wooded area in the Bronx after her grandfather informed police of his son’s confession, the New York Post reported.
Donald Comager, 47, recalled to the Post when he received a call from his son, Damion Comager, 23, who told him what happened to 3-month-old Genevieve Rozzlyn Comager.
“He told me the baby was doing a lot of crying,” Donald said. “She wouldn’t stop crying. He said he just shook her and lay her down, and he lay down and went to sleep.”
When Damion awoke, he discovered Genevieve was “cold” and “stiff.”
“He panicked. He told his girlfriend, ‘I think she is dead,'” Donald recalled Damion saying over the phone.
Police took Damion into custody, where he confessed to shaking and slapping Genevieve on May 14 because she couldn’t stop crying. NYPD discovered the baby’s body two weeks later, around 8:25 p.m. on Sunday, at West 161st Street and Major Deegan Expressway.
Near where police found Genevieve is the housing shelter Damion, Genevieve and her 20-year-old mother, Ivana Paolozzi, lived.
“They put the baby in a book bag and took her to the wooded area,” Donald said. The wooded area is also near the Yankee Stadium.
Donald hesitated to
report his son to the police, so he consulted his priest, who told him that he couldn’t tell him precisely what to do but advised him “do the right thing.”“That’s when I made the call. That was my grandbaby,” Donald said.
Police took Paolozzi and Damion into custody on Monday night. The 20-year-old mother was charged with concealment of a corpse and obstructing governmental administration. Damion was charged with murder and concealment of a corpse.
Damion told investigators he was afraid to contact the police or take her to a hospital because she had bruises around her neck and feared he’d be labeled a suspect.
Genevieve was born in February after Damion and Paolozzi moved from Switzerland, where the two met.
Donald never
met Genevieve but would FaceTime to see her. Damion reportedly dealt with mental health issues and was diagnosed with bipolar and schizophrenia as a child. The 23-year-old had an arrest record before the murder. He was arrested for assault, criminal impersonation and domestic violence in 2021.
The last thing Damion said to his father after his arrest during a phone call was that he was scared.
Donald’s struggling to cope with everything.
“I want everyone to know my son loves his daughter.”
