A 15-year-old student at Macon, Georgia’s Southwest High School reportedly died this week after being rushed to a local hospital from football practice, according to the Associated Press. The outlet reported that Joshua Ivory, the teenage student-athlete, collapsed on the first practice day of the season before later passing away in an emergency room.
An exact cause of death has not yet been revealed.
According to WSB-TV, students and faculty members will have access to a school counselor as they process the tragic loss.

Barney Hester, athletic director of Bibb County, told the Macon Telegraph about authorities being called over to the football practice, “We called 911, the fire truck was here in 5 to 6 minutes. It was handled in a timely manner.”
“We are all grieving. We have a young man that unfortunately is not going to be with us anymore, and we have to deal with that,” Hester added.

Also, according to the Associated Press, Southwest High School Principal A. Bernard Young commented on Ivory’s death in a statement, saying, “Joshua was a wonderful young man full of promise and zeal. He had an infectious smile and a very kind heart. He enjoyed sports and spending time with his family.”
“Joshua’s personality made it easy for him to make a great impression and huge impact on his teammates, coaches, and the entire Southwest family,”
An autopsy report is scheduled to be conducted, according to the Associated Press. It could reveal more information and provide additional details into Ivory’s death.
