According to a new poll, former president Barack Obama is ranked the best president in American history. The worst? Twice impeached, twice acquitted former president Donald Trump.
In an Economist/YouGov Poll conducted between Feb. 6 and Feb. 9, 1,500 participants were asked 110 questions about the country. One of the questions was who they thought was the best president in US history. Another was who they thought was the worst.
As for the best, Obama, the 44th president, was ranked number one with 18%. Abraham Lincoln came in second place with 17% and Trump came in third with 13%.
Even though Obama’s margin of victory as best president seems narrow here, when it came to the question of who was the worst, Trump won in a landslide, garnering 46% of the vote. Obama came in second place with 24% and Richard Nixon came in third with 5% of the votes.
The Capitol riots on Jan. 6 may have had some impact on how participants responded. When asked how much responsibility Trump bore for the riots, 43% said “a lot” of the responsibility fell on him, while 30% felt “none” of it did.
There is a 3% margin of error for this poll.
In a 2018 Pew Research Center Poll more Americans called Barack Obama the best President of their lifetime.
