While in his parked red SUV at a Norman, Oklahoma gas station, Steve Bomar was approached by police with their guns drawn and trained on him. Confused yet still maintaining a calm demeanor with the officers, the Black Oklahoma man was handcuffed by police, who allegedly responded to a 911 call about a violent road rage incident. Later, it was determined that the caller made a false claim, Fox 25 reported.
The Norman Police Department is now investigating whether the 911 caller can be charged in making the false claim that Bomar had pulled a gun on them during a road rage incident, according to Fox 25. During the June 15 call, they allegedly stated, “It’s a black guy, and he’s in a newer red Chevy Suburban, and it has rims on it,” leading police to Bomar, who apparently fit the description.
In the released body camera footage, Bomar is witnessed being handcuffed and escorted to the back of a police cruiser. No guns were discovered in Bomar’s SUV following a search, according to Fox 25. After detaining the Black Oklahoma man for 15 minutes and losing touch with the 911 caller, the Norman officers allegedly apologized and let him go.

Norman Police Department Major Jamie Shattuck justified the officers approaching Bomar with their guns out, saying to Fox 25 about the shocking incident, “We’ll have guns out sometimes when we think weapons are involved, so that’s pretty typical for the way we would respond,”
Acknowledging the potential consequences of reporting a false claim in the Oklahoma town, he continued, “There’s repercussions for false reporting of a crime, so that’s something that we’re definitely going to take a look at this week to see if there’s anything we can do on that side of the call,”
