An 8-year-old girl from West Bloomfield, Michigan, is being hailed as a hero after she helped rescue her great-grandmother who was trapped under an SUV.
Mariah Galloway was getting picked up from school by her great-grandmother when the incident occurred. The two were in their driveway in the SUV.
“So, she was picking me up from school and she thought the car was in park, but it was in reverse,” Galloway said. “And she got out, and it started moving, and she was trying to stop it because I was in it.”
According to reports, Mariah’s great-grandmother tried to stop the car from rolling onto Galloway but was caught under the moving vehicle instead. The SUV pinned the great-grandmother’s leg.
Galloway quickly rushed to remove the keys from the car and get her mother to help.

Galloway’s mother, Porchia Lane said, “When I opened the door all I heard was Mariah screaming. When I got out there, there was blood everywhere.”
Thanks to Mariah’s quick thinking, Lane was able to call an ambulance, and emergency services were able to arrive on the scene quickly, rescuing her injured great-grandmother. The woman was taken to the hospital. Her injuries were not life-threatening. She received several blood transfusions and is recovering. The matriarch is scheduled to have physical therapy to help with her recovery.
Saturday night, Lane planned a mini-surprise party for her 8-year-old daughter. Galloway was supposed to have a skating rink party to celebrate her birthday but instead celebrated her birthday early to spend time with her great-grandmother in the hospital as she recovers.
“She was trying to save Mariah, and here Mariah saved her,” Lane said.
“Be very careful and always follow your heart,” Galloway shared as advice.
