7-Eleven Clerk Delon Johnson Arrested For Fatally Shooting Man After He Stole Beer

Twenty-three-year-old Delon Johnson was

arrested after he shot and killed a man who had robbed the Dallas 7-Eleven he worked, according to the  Star-Telegram. Delon told authorities that the two men stole cases of beer from the 7-Eleven, and he shot at them.

The Dallas Police Department said that the men entered the 7-Eleven on North Zang Boulevard on August 4 and stole four cases of beer. Johnson followed the men outside, confronting them in the parking lot. The clerk told the men to return the stolen beer and shot at them when they tried to flee from the scene.

One man was later found in his pickup truck approximately one mile from the scene. He had been shot several times and was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The second man ran off and has not yet been found. Police are still investigating the shooting.

Twitter commented on the matter, and some noted that if Johnson had been white, he would have been applauded for shooting at thieves. Others thought that shooting at the assailants for stealing beer was extreme.

The 7-Eleven released a statement that they were cooperating with law enforcement.

“We are working with local law enforcement to provide any information helpful to their investigation,” said the 7-Eleven statement.

The Dallas Police Department is still investigating the shooting.
