A 6-year-old boy received a hero’s welcome when he returned home from the hospital after saving his younger sister from being hit by a car last month.
Kayden Reid of Mobile, Alabama, was hit by a car while rescuing his 2-year-old sister, Kaycee, from oncoming traffic during a family event.
The little boy was playing on the sidewalk when he realized that a vehicle was coming and Kaycee was in harm’s way.
“Kayden stopped what he was doing and jumped in front and saved her from being hit in the process,” his aunt Kendra Nettles said.
“I had to go get her before she got ran over by a car, but that’s when the car hit me,” Reid told Fox 10 News.
Kayden was taken to the hospital to get stitches but is OK otherwise, only suffering from minor scrapes and scratches.
When he returned home, he received a surprise hero’s welcome. The Mobile Fire/Rescue came by to congratulate the elementary schooler on his good deed and gave him some insight into the work that career heroes like firefighters do. Fittingly, the young hero wore his Superman suit and toured the firetruck, even getting to sit up front in the driver’s seat.

“My momma called me a hero because I saved my baby sister,” Reid told Fox 10 News.
“He’s a hero,” Public Information Officer Steven Millhouse said of Kayden Reid. “He’s got the heart of a hero.”
In a Facebook post detailing the event, Kayden’s mom Kayla Giles reflected on the scary situation, thanking God for keeping her children safe.
“I’m up giving praise to the most high because I woke up to my children here in the flesh doing good & the outcome could have been way tragic. Lord, I just can’t shake the thoughts right now. Kayden is our hero & will forever be our hero. I tell my children all the time your siblings are forever & I tell them to watch out for each other because whether I leave here today or tomorrow, they will always have each other. “
“We’re just thankful that we have both kids [home and safe] today,” she said.
Thank goodness Kayden and his family are safe as they recover from what could’ve been a very tragic situation.
