The little girl who was injured in a car crash involving a former NFL coach has come out of her coma. This report is according to a Monday post on the GoFundMe account raising money to pay for the 5-year-old girl’s medical bills.
“Ariel is awake,” says the post. However, there is no information on her current condition or overall prognosis.
It is the first update to the GoFundMe since last week when it was announced that Ariel remained in a coma. There is no information as to when she emerged from the coma. Another child was injured in the crash albeit to a lesser extent.
The news comes about a week after authorities announced that investigation into the accident caused by then Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid could go on for weeks. Why? His blood-alcohol results won’t be ready for nearly two months due to back log in the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Reid was involved in the accident days before the team played in Super Bowl LV, which it lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was not present during the game. Reid confessed to being under the influence of two to three drinks and drug Adderall.
Despite Reid’s admission to driving under the influence, he has not been arrested despite Missouri law suggesting DUI is an arresting offense.
This isn’t the first time Britt Reid has been involved in a crime while driving. The New York Times reported he pleaded guilty to gun and drug charges in 2007 following a road rage incident in Philadelphia. Reid later pleaded guilty to an unrelated charged of DUI while out on bail from the road rage case.
The larger community is stepping up to help Ariel and her family. As of this reporting, the GoFundMe account in her name had raised more than $488,000, surpassing its goal of $420,000.
