The New York Jets tried to make a move on a Las Vegas Raiders player before the NFL trade deadline. As reported by Adam Schefter on ESPN, the Jets tried to acquire wide receiver Davante Adams before he’s put up on the table to other teams.
Schefter said in a November 4 report that the Jets have been eying Adams for a while now and have just been “waiting for the moment to reach out to Las Vegas to land the three-time All-Pro” so that he can play again with his former teammate, former Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.
The Raiders, however, refused to play ball with the Jets and told the New York team that they weren’t looking to put Adams up. Schefter agreed with the statement, telling the First Take audience that there wasn’t “a chance in hell” that the Las Vegas NFL team would go for a trade like that.
The Jets general manager, Joe Douglas, revealed that he was pushing hard to close out trades this week for his team; specifically, he cited that he was being so aggressive in negotiations because New York is hoping to get Rodgers back later this season and they want to build a successful team around the MVP player. ESPN reported that Douglas tried to push for Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout player Mike Evans, as well as Adams.
Douglas said, “We made a lot of calls on many different positions. But it takes two to tango. We made a lot of calls, but we didn’t get a lot of deals done,”
The Raiders haven’t been quiet around these communicative times, though. They decided to keep Adams and also recently fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler after a rough 3-5 start to the season.
