A 14-year-old girl in Louisiana was arrested on Monday for solicitation of murder, police said.
According to ABC 4, the teen allegedly tried to hire a contracted killer online to kill her 14-year-old ex-boyfriend.
“An administrator of a website gave us a call to report that someone from Baton Rouge reached out to them to have someone killed,” said Officer L’jean Mckneely of the Baton Rouge Police Department.
Baton Rouge Police were alerted about the teenager’s plans in January. After verifying the information, they arrested the ninth-grader.
“We made contact with the 14-year-old female and talked to her about putting that on the website, and after our discussion, we felt like we needed to make the arrest. She was booked into juvenile detention,” Mckneely said.
Criminal defense attorney Michael Nunnery was hired to represent the teen.
“That’s such bull sh**, and I’m going to leave it right there. I have nothing else to say. There is no way she did any act furtherance of this crime. There’s no way she could have carried it out. They are sensationalizing this at that point,” he said.
Though juvenile hearings are closed to the public, the teen’s case was open due to the severity of the charges. Police say the 14-year-old provided detailed information a contracted assassin would need to carry it out.
She had given photos of her ex, the times he would get on the bus, and locations where the hitman could find him, police said.
“My client is a juvenile first of all. And first of all, in order to carry out any crime, you have to have the wherewithal to make it happen. This is a 14-year-old. She doesn’t have five dollars to pay a hitman, ok,” Nunnery said.
Authorities believe the website used is satirical, given the credible information the teen entered into the website, ABC 4 reported.
“This particular child has psychological issues, and she’s been certified of having psychological issues and so forth and so on. So really, this is a whole lot to do about nothing at the end of the day. She has no ability or really desire to kill anybody, and this was her acting out,” Nunnery said.
The teenage girl is being held on a $75,000 bond.
Nunnery said the website his client used should be investigated for entrapment.
The man who runs the site, ‘rent-a-hitman-dot-com,’ said he forwards messages he believes are serious to the police.
