Two brothers, ages 10 and 14, allegedly involved in the death of 73-year-old James Lambert, turned themselves in to authorities around 4 p.m. on Monday at the Philadelphia police headquarters, CBS 3 reported. The 14-year-old’s name is Richard Jones.
Philadelphia police released the 10-year-old from custody while Richard was charged with third-degree murder.

, the fatal beating occurred last month (June 24) around 2:38 a.m. A surveillance video showed the graphic moment when seven teens chased after Lambert and beat him with a traffic cone. The following day after being transported to the hospital, Lambert died. Police released screenshots of the seven suspects involved, offering a $20,000 reward to those with any information that will lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects.It’s unclear as to what roles the brothers played in the video.
Police say they have contacted only some of those involved in the assault but expect the others to turn themselves in hopefully.
“This is a very, very active investigation,” District Attorney Larry Krasner said. Things are happening hour by hour.”
Regarding the possibility of the teens facing murder charges, Krasner said that “it seems very likely” despite their little information. Although there are a lot of unanswered questions surrounding this case, many are questioning the parents’ responsibilities due to the attack happening at 2:38 a.m. and their kids being out that late a week before the city’s mandated curfew.
The investigation is ongoing, and Lambert’s sister, Elsie Stephens, urged the other teens to follow suit and turn themselves in.
“Let them turn [themselves] in, turn yourself in,” Stephens said. “How could you let us suffer like this? You took him away from us,”
